Letters to Juliet (2010) Movie Review

Image from Letters to Juliet at Wikipedia
I consider myself to be a hopeless romantic and because for now I have no love life, I find a romantic comedy movie to watch and make me feel “in-love” through the characters of the story.
A few weeks ago I just knew about Amanda Seyfried, and when I read the wiki page about her, I discovered that she is playing the lead role in all of her movie. I became curious about her because she’s a huge star yet I haven’t heard any rumors about her like I would with all those other stars now. Because of the curiosity, it lead me to watching almost all of her movies and upon seeing the trailer of “Letters to Juliet” I know, I just have to add it on my TO WATCH list.
Yesterday, I got the chance to finally see the movie and I really liked it.
Juliet’s answer to Claire’s letter:
” Dear Claire,
“What” and “If” are two words as non threatening as words can be. But put them together, side-by-side and they have the power to haunt you for the rest of your life.
“What If?”
“What If?”
“What If?”
I don’t know how your story ended but if what you felt then was “true love”, then it’s never to late. If it were true then, why wouldn’t it be true now? You need only the courage to follow your heart. I don’t know what a love like Juliet’s feels like; a love to leave loved ones fore, a love to cross oceans for. But I’d like to believe if I ever were to feel it, that I’d have the courage to seize it. And Claire, if you didn’t, I hope one day that you will. All my love,
Juliet”
Thanks to the The Notebook, I didn’t have a hard time writing it word for word while listening to the movie.
No wonder Amanda Seyfried always gets the lead role in most of her movies, she’s a natural. I admire her simplicity as well.
Have I mentioned I liked the movie? The only down side for me is that sometimes, the sound / music doesn’t seem suitable for the scene. I think it is pretty much predictable, but yet it didn’t stop me from watching the movie, and I didn’t regret doing so.
Trailer vs Movie:
I guess there are a few scenes in the trailer that I haven’t seen on movie. One is the conversation between Sophie and her fiancee on the phone while her fiancee is in an auction, and the other one is when Charlie was driving and he was glancing at Sophie and they almost had an accident.
How I wish every love story is like that. If you are like me who loves happy ending, better watch that movie.

Avatar Inspired Haircut
This morning I gave my son a haircut, but I wasn’t satisfied. So, this afternoon, after he woke up I again gave him a new haircut, this time I got a design in mind. Because almost everyone on plurk and facebook seems to be talking about the “Avatar” movie, I thought it would be cool if my son would have that arrow on his head. I thought of Rocky from PBB who got a haircut of an arrow but it is on the back of his head, so if they could do that, surely I could make it on my sons hair.
If you are a parent, you would know that haircut on kids would be hard, most of the time they move and even worst they would sometimes cry. So it is going to be a tough job. Since the morning he had his haircut, he had no complaints. Thankfully enough he was cooperating whenever I ask him not to move.
Here’s the haircut of my son – done by ME!

My nephew saw it and he liked it, so he let me do his hair as well.

Paranormal Activity (2009) Movie Review
My friend Lizanie encourages me to watch the movie Paranormal Activity. I used to be a brave young child but then I grew up to be a scaredy cat. I was curious and so I watched it. I have read from Wikipedia that the movie have 3 different endings. The one I watched ended up with Katie going back to the room with blood on her shirt and then later Police came and Katie was shot by the police.
I was really scared, but it didn’t stop me from watching the movie beginning to end.
Things I find unrealistic:
- They have certainly proved that there is something weird going on and caught it on camera. However, the boyfriend still doesn’t seem to believe it, to the point that he doesn’t want Katie to call a paranormal expert to help them and he still thinks he is in control. How stupid could that be?
- They are super brave that everytime they sleep the lights are off. If that happened to me, I wouldn’t care about the electricity bill, lights will be on.
- The paranormal expert that they called backed out because he sensed that the spirit was angry and it doesn’t want him to be there. I thought these kind of people are supposed to be brave and would fight to death?
- They are having a hard time looking for people that would help them. I think at 2006 there are a lot of TV series that is about paranormal and for me there are just a lot of people that could help, specially they have videos to prove their concerns.
- I have heard that usually spirits like this live in a house that is quiet but in the movie, the psychic said that it feeds from negative vibes like problems. That is just opposite from what I know. Usually, when something is weird happening in the house, my Mom would go shouting to drove it away and it does. I guess my house is just too noisy for those kind of spirits to live. I am not denying the fact that my house have those unseen entities too, but it is a good one, the one that gives out good luck. Usually, only guests or people new in the house would see, hear or feel them and my Mom has seen them when she was young.
Let’s respect everyone, including those we could not see.
Manila Trip
Fast track on what has happened to me since my last post. I am now actually office free!
It was good while it lasted. Goodbye office folks. Adios la oficina.
I was in Manila for WordCamp Philippines 2009 as a WordPress fanatic. I had a great time with my cousin while I was there. Though, I was only there for 3 days, it was a full 3 days! I remembered, it was my second time traveling to Manila alone.
First day, I arrived in our apartment by 1pm but my home buddies are not yet home. Our neighbors did welcome me, but I am not close to them so I decided to go out and kill time by having a manicure and pedicure. After my nails done, one of my home buddy is already home. He cooked the food I brought for dinner and we ate. My other home buddy arrived at 9pm and we watched a horror movie which I haven’t finished. She laughed at me because she wasn’t scared at all. She thought it was a comedy. DAMN that “Drag Me To Hell.” Why does everyone else thinks it is funny and I thought it was really scary!
Second day, me and my cousin Bevelyn went to the WordCamp Philippines 2009.
After the event, we ate at Teriyaki Boy.
I couldn’t find that here in Iloilo. So, here’s our craziness:
The food was fulfilling.
This was at Greenbelt.
Third day, we went to SM Mall of Asia (MOA) to buy “pasalubong.”
Our favorite, FLOSS at Bread Talk.
After roaming around the mall, we ate at the French Baker.
While waiting for the FLOSS we ordered, we had a Banana Split from Haagen Dazs.
So, after we got our Floss from Bread Talk. My cousin dropped me off at the Airport.
I am now back in Iloilo. A day after my arrival, I had a meeting with Iloilo Bloggers. I always have a good time with those people with great minds.
So busy!
Yesterday, during the IBM V demo, I was able to meet a few bloggers and to mention our Provincial Advisor Mr. Manuel Mejorada, who is updated when it comes to tech than I am.
Today, I will be joining Claire in a meeting with SM.
On the 28th and 29th special IT events.
If you are in Iloilo and wants to know more about SEO, you should attend the Digital Filipino SEO Workshop on September 28, 2009 at Netopia SM City Iloilo, 6 pm to 9 pm.
So, I wonder, if I am still in the office … I don’t know how to manage things in my life. I am so busy and expect more to pile up. I haven’t mentioned some of the events on my schedule, but if you want to be updated on IT events here in Iloilo or events that you could blog, add me on Plurk, Twitter or Facebook, if not then better check for an updated post on Iloilo Bloggers Blog.
Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist
I have to be honest, that I have watched this movie more than I should. Just come to think of it, I play this at least once a night since the first time I have seen it. My friend would say, it is like my coffee since it get’s me out of my sleepiness whenever I watch it.
The movie, was the first thing I discovered, because I often ask my friends for a recommendation of a “Romantic Comedy” films. This was one of the suggestions my friends had 2 weeks ago.
So, without any expectations or knowledge where this movie would bring me, I started watching it. After the movie ended, I can’t get enough of it, so I watched it all over again. I never get bored of doing so.
My Review on the actors:
Kat Dennings – I liked her because of this movie. I guess the character Norah fitted her perfectly.
Michael Cera – He also matches the personality of Nick though I would say, he could have done a better acting since there are scenes in the movie that just seems awkward for me.
The Friends – Well, those actors were great. The “gays” were really interesting and to add up, Caroline’s scenes were the scenes to watch in this movie.
After watching the movie, it got me to research more about it. On one of the Youtube video’s I have seen, there was a comment that says “The book is much better than the movie.” So, I get on my ways to acquire the so-called book and read it in one-sitting.
One thing I noticed with the book is that in almost every sentence they say, there would be an F word in it. That is kind of a turn off for me, but I kept on reading anyway.
I was expecting more of the book because I have already seen the movie. Though the story was great, it was far different than the movie.
All in all I guess I could say that the movie could have been better if they stick with what is on the book and the book could have been better if there’s not too much F-word in it.
Before I forget, the Trailer was better than the movie, because there are scenes in the trailer I like that wasn’t shown in the movie. Just like the “first kiss” and “we have the same dentist” scene. Watch the trailer:
Comparisons:
Trailer vs Movie
- First kiss is better on the trailer because Norah’s hands wrapped on Nick’s head gives it a more sexy feel in it. In the movie, it was like an awkward situation. I know they just met and it was kind-of a quicky thing, but the story in the book was all about “how magical” the first kiss was, so it should be a passionate kiss and not just a smack.
- TRAILER { Nick: We go to the same dentist, Norah: Yeah, he’s good. } MOVIE { Norah: We uh go to the same dentist, Dr. Man-o-man-witz. }
Movie vs Book
- The “orgasm” thing in the movie was “frigid” in the book.
- Tris was a bitch all the way in the movie, but in the book on the later part, you would see the good side of her and would make you think that she is not a bad girl.
First Time for A LOT of Things
It has been a lot, so I will just show a picture and a story behind that pic.
The Family went to Tagaytay.

My cousin Bevs is the one helping us get our way there.

This was my first time to ride a horse.

I was scared of the horse, and luckily it rained so I just had one round and went down.
I don’t have all the pictures online because I could not find the connector of my other camera, so here’s our pictures in Hong Kong.

The view is Victoria Harbour. This is more beautiful during the night.

For my Mom, the best of it all was the parade.

Hannah is the star kid on the train ride.

We have a picture with Buzz. Hannah is scared of mascots, so she just waves “Hi” to Buzz.

Our delicious food. Mixed rice.

I bought a new cam. SO, I have all my wishes now. Got all 3 items on my wish list. I am so lucky!

The hotel in where we are staying. It’s under renovation.

The Temple. Just across the street of our Hotel. Which is Dorsett Seaview Hotel.

Sandals my Dad bought before leaving Hong Kong.

Hannah and Hector found a friend named Tanya.

Now, in a Bus going to Hong Kong Airport.

The Hong Kong Airport is very big, but so beautiful. There is an area for kids to watch toons while waiting for the planes boarding time.

This is the cloud view on from the plane.

And we’re back in Manila kissing cousins.

Then we’re back in Iloilo. Hannah had asthma, but she is okay now. She started going to school yesterday.
That’s all for now.
A Tortured Morning and Happy Afternoon
Yesterday morning, I went to NSO to process the birth certificate of my son. That was not a pleasing experience.
I got home in the afternoon, saw the table empty. I decided to invite my cousin to eat out and watch a movie. We ate at Joey’s Pepperoni Pizzaria (correct me if I’m wrong) because I love pasta!
I ordered:

and something that looks like a bake zitti
I forgot the name

Then my cousin ordered a pasta alfredo
Though I was the one who ordered a lot, but it turned out it was my cousin who ate most of it
HONESTLY! That girl has a miracle tummy, she ates more than I do, but gets away with it.
We then had a window shop because we were too full to sit down and watch a movie. But eventually the fullness was gone and we watched Angels and Demons. Not really a fan of it, but it was okay.
Then a beautiful scenery outside the Mall of Asia.

Grey’s Anatomy Video Game Review
Last Week March 22, 2009 I saw a video ad on ABC Grey’s Anatomy official website about this Grey’s Anatomy Video Game. Since I am a lover of the show and somehow a game addict, I tried it out. I purchased a PC download which is worth US $29.99. Downloaded the 3 files needed for about 3 hours then I excitedly played the game. I finished playing the game after a week of my purchase. The game is just short, but because of my busy schedule, I barely have time to play with it. Since today is my rest day, I finished the game. Without further a do, here’s my Grey’s Anatomy Video Game Review.
Game Ranking (Lowest 1 – Highest 5) & Explanation:
- Graphics: 2 – Comparing it to the games I have played recently, like Resident Evil video games, the graphic on this game is not that impressive. Though they have somewhat copied the face of the characters, it could have been better. It’s like a game created from the 90′s – out dated!
- Sound: 4 – I am impressed with the sounds. I like the beat on some challenges.
- Gameplay: 2 – The characters walks funny, the voice over does not match the lips, and importantly the story sucks.
- Overall Rating: 2 – It is just not challenging enough.
Strength:
- The challenges that involves surgery are based on real surgeries. If a med student would play this, they would probably learn some techniques. I LOVE the stitching part. Callie always creates good or artistic stitches.
Weakness:
- I would like to say that I am an Alex and Izzie fan. So, for me the storyline do SUCK big time. The game is all about the story.
My Notes:
- There is a scene that I love that involves Alex Karev and Izzie Stevens together. Izzie was having trouble with Miranda Bailey’s baby (Tuck) and she asks Alex’s help in babysitting him.
- The game must have been done before the Season 5 started because it is all about Alex – Ava – Lexie Grey. Again, I am an Alex and Izzie fan, so this is not a good thing for me.
- Christina Yang was linked with a nurse. Imagine that? Doesn’t seem like Christina right? It’s icky, especially the nurse seems to have this boosting self confidence.
- Mark Sloan was paired up with Erica Hahn. I am soo not feeling it. Doesn’t seem like the characters at all.
- Izzie was paired up with a med guy that works for the government. Not my type.
Okay I Feel Sad Now
I just watched Grey’s Anatomy and they really did a great job in pulling the emotions inside of me. Izzie is sick and everyone is there to support her. I hope they would let her live, because Alex is a mess without her.
I also feel sad about some people around me who are just plainly rude and they just do it for laughs. I know I used to be rude on people when I was in college, play jokes that would hurt them personally. BUT, I grew up. I put jokes on proper time and that is not hurtfull or abusive. My friends and I do have our laughs with the jokes we have and I don’t think we’re KJ’s or weirdo’s. How sad that some people could be so old, yet immature.
Lastly, Lindsay is in Montana now. I don’t know when we will ever see her back in the show again.
Just expressing myself here. It’s been a long time I haven’t blogged. Just so many things happening to my life right now; Busy being a full time Single Mom – LOVING IT!
